The Seven Rila Lakes

One of the most beautiful places in Bulgaria. Arranged along a terraced cirque at the north approaches of peak Dimka (in the northwest part of Rila Planina). They spread at 2100-2500m above sea level. Each of the lakes flows into the next, thus creating series of cascades and small waterfalls. All seven lakes are named after their specific visual characteristics. By descending order they are: The Teardrop, The Eye (the deepest one – 37.5 m), The Kidney (with the most steep shores), The Twin (the largest), The Trefoil, The Fish, and The Lower Lake which flows out giving source to the German river.
