Belogradchik Rocks

The town of Belogradchik gives its name to Bulgaria's most remarkable rock formations - The Belogradchik Rocks. This marvel of nature has been shaped and molded by rains, running waters and the wind for more than 200 million years, turning the stone into sculptures resembling mythical beings and people, beasts and birds. The natural phenomenon has fantastic shapes - castles, fortresses, silhouettes of people, birds and animals, mushrooms, obelisks, coaches and towers, rising to a height of 200 m. Some of the more impressive stone sculptures are: the Madonna, the Horseman, the Nun, the Monks, the Schoolgirl, Adam and Eve, the Sphinx, the Pine Stone, the Mushrooms, etc.
